Psychidae. ( Case and bag moths.) Hyalarcta huebneri (Photo. 813. stick cocoon. L. Jenkins. 2002) I found these cocoons attached to clumps of strong bladed grass. I had no idea how they move around, more like caravans than cocoons. (Photo. 811. 812. male. L. Jenkins.2002) On October 3rd. 2002. the male emerged, with its fluffy body, and transparent wings. Later a female grub hatched but not in time to mate. Timing is difficult when you do not have a lot of pupas. (Photo. 817, female grub. L. Jenkins. 2002) I will try to get more this next year, and record the whole cycle. ------------------------------------------------- We had this caterpillar for some time and (Photo.... L. Jenkins. 2002) eventually it emerged as a female grub.
(Photo.205.L. Jenkins. 2002) As we only had the one we were unable to get the cycle, but will keep trying. ----------------------------------------------------- "Doesn't this take the cake"
(Photo. 846. L. Jenkins. 2002) This tiny Psychid was found by Georgia , on a leaf at school. (Photo.885. L. Jenkins. 2002) It was about the size of my little finger nail. --------------------------------------------------- More stick and leaf cocoons. (Photos.150. ,L.Jenkins.) (Photo.151. L. Jenkins.)
